A Conversation with the Vibrant & Resilient Latoya Nickee Walker

At Photos by LJK, we celebrate women who lead with passion, purpose, and authenticity. Today, we’re sitting down with Latoya Nickee Walker, a woman whose energy lights up every space she enters. She’s an artist, a survivor, and a bold advocate for self-worth beyond titles. Let’s dive into her inspiring journey!

Photos by LJK: What’s your full name?

Latoya: Latoya Nickee Walker.

Photos by LJK: Who is the woman that inspires you the most?

Latoya: My mother inspires me the most. She has overcome so many things and still remains such a kind, giving person. She truly exemplifies kindness and goodness as fruits of the spirit.

Photos by LJK: That’s such a beautiful legacy of strength and kindness. If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Latoya: You are more than your productivity. You are more than your grades, accomplishments, or titles.

Photos by LJK: Whew, that’s a word right there! What’s your go-to song when you need to feel empowered?

Latoya: “Excellent” by Koryn Hawthorne.

Photos by LJK: That’s a great choice! What’s a passion or hobby that brings you joy outside of work?

Latoya: Painting and drawing.

Photos by LJK: Creativity fuels the soul! If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

Latoya: Vibrant.

Photos by LJK: I love that! Why did you choose it?

Latoya: Vibrant means full of energy and enthusiasm (or bright and striking). No matter what setting I’m in—I am very vocal, and my personality is very big.

I’m the girl at church that’s talking back to the pastor as he preaches. I’m the girl articulating my concerns in a large board meeting. I’m the friend that’s gonna be honest with you even when it’s hard because I care about you.

Photos by LJK: That kind of presence is a gift! How do you celebrate your wins, big or small?

Latoya: Food! And that ranges from a small piece of Dove dark chocolate to a full-blown meal.

In the immediate moment, I may also bust out dancing.

Photos by LJK: Now that’s a celebration! What does strength mean to you, and how do you embody it?

Latoya: By definition, strength means “the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure.”

I have survived many tragedies and trials, including being Black in the military and surviving domestic violence. But I believe my truest embodiment of strength is how I use those experiences to empathize with, help, and encourage others.

Photos by LJK: That’s true strength—turning pain into purpose. If you could make one change in the world for women, what would it be?

Latoya: To dismantle the narrative that our worth is in how well we serve others as daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, and any other applicable title.

Photos by LJK: YES! Women deserve to be valued beyond service. Now, what’s one accomplishment you’re really proud of?

Latoya: I have managed to transition out of the military back into my dance career—and in a full-time capacity, at that!

Photos by LJK: That is amazing! Last question—if you had a billboard for one day, what would it say?

Latoya: You are wonderful without any additives.
